The Garden Festival 2007.

I ove godine grad Zadar ima jedan veliki festival, Gareden Festival koji će se održati 6., 7. i 8. srpnja u Petrčanima kod Zadra. Glavni dio programa održavat će se u kompleksu Pinija koji je sa tri strane okružen morem i poznat po 'najljepšim zalascima sunca'.

Posjetiteljima će biti na raspolaganju brod Argonaut za prijevoz od kompleksa Pinija do lounge bara Garden. No, na tom brodu će se također održavati partiji na pučini, što pridonosi samoj orginalnosti Gardena. Predviđeno je šest partija na brodu.

Garden festival će i ove godine ugostiti domace i strane izvođače, koji ce uživo nastupati na nekoliko bina, no u programu ćete moći pronaći poneke DJ-e koji će biti zaslužni da ne nedostaje zabave.

Zbog interesa onih koji žele posjetiti festival te produžiti svoj boravak na više od tri dana, bit će produžen i sam festival - A Man Called Adam održat će svoj DJ set u predvečerje 9. srpnja na obali kompleksa Pinija. Zabava će se nastaviti unutar diskoteke Barbarellas gdje će svoje setove održati DJ-evi koji dolaze iz dva najpoznatija kluba u Velikoj Britaniji Back to Basics i Chibuku Shake Shake.

The Reggae Contest, open to newcomers or artists still not internationally known, use to be official selections of Italian and European bands running for the Main Stage at Rototom Sunsplash.

The Reggae Contest Com_Unity will award the winner with the official invitation to perform in all the above-listed festivals (more festivals could be added: stay tuned!)
This European tour will start with the show on Rototom Sunsplash main stage on Saturday 7th of July. The other dates will be announced soon.

BANDS EVALUATION: 50% tech jury + 50% public vote

A representative of each partner from this Com_Unity will be part of the technical jury in charge to value bands during mp3 selection and during the live final at Sunsplash. And, again this year, we invite also the European reggae massive to vote during the phases of the Reggae Contest. Votes from the 2 charts, jury’s and public’s one, will be translated in percentage and combined: 50% jury’s vote + 50% public vote.

BANDS REGISTRATION

Bands are invited to register and fill the application form available: - On rototomsunsplash.com (bands from all European countries) - On the website of the 18 partners listed above (only national registrations) The application form needs to be filled online. Requested data (except those for internal use) will be re-directed to a band CARD available online during Reggae Contest selections.

THE ITALIAN AWARD: 5th of July (pre-festival)

During the period of online selections, an internal commission of Rototom Sunsplash will be in charge to look for 8 Italian bands with a good historical background and active as regards cd release and tours (no newcomers). These 8 bands will be invited on thursday 5th of July (pre-festival) to a musical audition in the Showcase Area with the festival promoters who will choose 2 of them to join the final of the Reggae Contest and run for the European tour. This musical audition will be open to the public. Free entrance in the festival area.

THE LIVE FINAL: 6th of July (festival opening day)

It’s scheduled on friday, 6th of July, opening day of the Rototom Sunsplash, in the Showcase Area. 8 bands on stage: 2 from the Italian Award + 6 from Reggae Contest mp3 selection. Only 1 band will be the winner.

Rules and Enrollment

1. ORGANIZATION Rototom Sunsplash in collaboration with Rasta Snob (Italy), Eventagent-PlanetX, Foursista (Germany), Reggae.fr (France), Asociacion Cultural Reggae (Spain), Inforeggae.net (Portugal), Rock Vibe (Slovenia), A Com_Unity formed by reggae festivals and media from various European countries join the Reggae Contest 2007 and support the organization. All of them are officially in charge to collect bands inscriptions and value bands.

2. PARTECIPANTS: the competition is open to all European bands that count at least half of their components of nationality European

3. MUSIC STYLES All the following music styles will be taken into consideration: reggae, dub, original ska, ragamuffin, dancehall style, afro-reggae, samba-reggae. PLEASE NOTE: only artist performing original material will be allowed to take part to the competition. The application of bands whose lyrics promote violence or discrimination will be rejected

4. REGISTRATION: Registration is free. Registration is possible within the end date of the 20th of April 2007. After that date the enrollment will be considered closed. Artists or bands that intend to participate has to fill the form published on www.rototomsunsplash.com (bands from all Europe’s countries) CLICK HERE to register now. Registration is also possible on the following websites that are part of the Reggae Contest Com_Unity.

5. ACCEPTANCE: ROTOTOM SUNSPLASH will take into consideration only and exclusively bands that comply with all of the above.

Evaluation

The evaluation considers votes from 2 categories: Votes expressed by the reggae massive, invited to join the 2 phases of the contest Votes expressed by an European jury of experts formed by representatives of reggae media and promoters of reggae festivals Votes from the 2 charts will be translated in percentage and combined: 50%+50% Both categories will vote during the online selection and also during the live final at Rototom Sunsplash..

ONLINE SELECTION

All bands registered will be listed on the rototom website. Each band will be presented with some background data, one photo and the two mp3 Selection on mp3 will start on the 21st of April until 21st of May 2007. Only 6 bands will qualify for the final and will receive - free 9-day tickets for the festival - catering for the day of the final - hotel for the day of the final PLEASE NOTE: free tickets, catering and hotel are provided only to bands members.

ITALIAN AWARD
8 italian bands with a good historical background and active during the last 2 years will be selected by an internal commission of Rototom Sunsplash and invited to perform the 5th of July in the Showcase Area. The jury of European festival promoters will choose 2 of them to join the live final together with Reggae Contest finalists.

LIVE FINAL
It’s scheduled on the 6th of July 2007, opening day of the Rototom Sunsplash Location: Rototom Sunsplash Showcase stage. On stage 6 finalists selected on mp3 + 2 bands from the Italian Award Only 1 band will be the winner of the Reggae Contest 2007. Prizes

Dj Leeroy iz Prodigya u Bestu

U Bestu će se sljedećeg vikenda okupiti brojni fanovi najveće elektronske senzacije 90-ih - Prodigya. Njihov odbjegli član, Leeroy Thornhill, dolazi u Zagreb na program Famous pokazati svoje DJ umijeće i predstaviti svoj žestoki mashup zvuk, nabijen breaksima i Miami bass electrom.

Nakon što je prije sedam godina napustio kultni bend, Leeroy se ponovo vratio svojoj DJ karijeri koju je zapostavio ulaskom u projekt Prodigy. Najbolje ga se sjećamo po ludom načinu plesa koji je fascinirao na spotovima Prodigya, a osim plesa u bendu bi ponekad svirao klavijature. Leeroy je još uvijek u kontaktu s ostatkom ekipe, a znao je i zasvirati kao DJ na koncertima bivših kolega. Krasi ga žestoki breakbeat, old school semplovi i Miami bass electro zvuk - spoj koji će razdrmati svaki dancefloor, a dosta u setovima vrti i original ili remiksirane stvari Prodigya.

Remiksirao je i neke poznate glazbenike kao što su Moby, David Gray, Dr. Doom i Flint. Njegov bend, Flightcrank, izdao je prvi album 2001., a Leeroyeve stvari puštali su tada Maxim, Lee Scratch Perry, Mad Professor and Genaside 2. Uredno nastupa širom svijeta, a svirao je 2003. i s Public Enemy na australskoj turneji. Prošle godine udružio se s DJ Hyperom kojem je i pomogao oko „We control“ albuma gdje je bio glavni vokal. Osnovali su i bend Hyper Live te surađuju su producentima Ronnie i Jim Daviesom (Pitchshifter / The Prodigy).

Podrška će mu sljedeće subote (12.05.) u Bestu biti DJ Dechko. Upad je 40 kn do ponoći sa sms flyerom 66753 I 66095, 50 kn do ponoći, 60 kn iza.

ILLECTRIC FUNK Festival 2007

Confusion festival ove godine traje čak tri weekenda, a pripremaju akciju vec od 19. svibnja kada u klub Aquarius dolazi londonski producent The Bug. Pod kojim god imenom se pojavi, Kevin Martin uvijek izdaje hitove za respektabilne izdavačke kuce kao što su Ninja Tune, Rephlex, Tigerbeat6, Soul Jazz Records. Uz njega nastupa i kanadski hip hop MC BLUEBIRD, te klasična Confusion postava.

Na drugom flooru moci cete odgledati dečke iz Bass Invadersa koji dovode londonskog drum & bass producenta Blu Martena koji izdaje za Good Looking etiketu.

Iduci vikend, 26. svibnja svratite do KSETA gdje se Confusion udružuje sa BREAKLECTICOM, a skupa dovode dva imena londonske underground scene: MALA, glavni pionir dubstep scene, a pokretač je popularne DMZ večeri u Londonu, te istoimenog labela. Uz njega nastupa i N- TYPE, čovjek koji je prošle godine na dubstep forumu proglašen za najboljeg dubstep DJ-a.

Vec iduci dan 27. svibnja opet cete u Kset doci plesati. Naime, u suradnji sa Austrijskim kulturnim forumom, dolazi mlada dama pod imenom GUSTAV, iza sebe ima prvijenac 'Rettet die Wale', album koji joj je donio popularnost izvan Austrije. Uz nju nastupaju i WINTERSTRAND, kojeg čine tri brata, od kojih dvojica nastupaju live, te PHOTOPHOB, pokretač Laridae net labela. Kao DJ support nastupa ZVONKO, član disko404 organizacije, te jedan od suorganizatora elevate festivala. Nakon toga opet malo edukacije u Teratru Exit, gdje cete moci sudjelovati na radionici računalne glazbe. U završnom vikendu festivala, u petak, moci cete vidjeti novo izdanje Videoskopa.

I tako smo došli do zadnjeg vikenda koji ce biti obilježen nastupom DJ KRUSHA (01. lipnja). DJ Krush je na sceni od kraja osamdesetih, sa brojnim albumima iza sebe, po prvi puta je koristio gramofone kao instrumente, te je nastupao sa live glazbenicima.

Vec drugi dan 02. lipnja, Confusion sa Vrkijem iz Radikal Dub Kolektiva priprema fade out zabavu, na kojoj ce kao glavni gost nastupati britanski producent THE TEKNOIST.

Prozack Turner dolazi iz San Jose-a / California, i frontman je hip-hop grupe Foreign Legion. 2002. je potpisao za Dreamworks records, te snimio pravo glazbeno "soulful putovanje" naziva Death, Taxes and Prozack na kojem su sudjelovali Pete Rock, Madlib, Organized Noize, The Alchemist te pokojni Jay Dilla, no album nikada nije izdan zbog prodaje etikete Universal Music-u koji nije želio izdati album niti Prozacku dati snimke, zbog čega je praktički bankrotirao i od potencijalne nove velike zvijezde postao još jedan "slučaj" glazbene industrije. Nije odustao od glazbe te je ipak snimio svoj prvi album imena Banghaton za neovisnu etiketu Hungerstrike Records na kojem je sam producirao dvije pjesme, a za ostatak su se pobrinuli producenti poput Jake One (De La Soul, G-Unit, MF Doom), Oh No (Stones Throw Rec.) te Paul Nice (Beastie Boys, Biz Markie, Masta Ace). Prozack je poznat kao odličan showman s izvrsnim live nastupom te po iznimnoj komunikaciji s publikom i ludostima koje izvodi na pozornici, stoga nikako ne bi trebalo propustiti njegov nastup.

DJ Flip dolazi iz Dublina / Irska, te je jedan od najboljih svjetskih turntablista, što dokazuje i pobjeda na ITF (International Turntable Federation) svjetskom prvenstvu 2003/04. Samo ilustracije radi, ITF je uz DMC najjače svjetsko natjecanje u turntablismu te su na njemu pobjeđivale "face" poput Scratch Perverts, DJ Craze, DJ Babu, DJ Woody, Rafik…
Osim DJ-ingom i turntablismom, bavi se i produkcijom te je uz kolegu Freezemaster Slick-a osnovao i etiketu imena LuckyCharm Records na kojoj izdaju mnogi irski hip-hop artisti, a u planu su i izdanja za neke američke underground hip-hop kolege poput Buck 65, Slug (Atmosphere), Freestyle (The Arsonists) pa i Prozack Turner.

TRIBUTE TO BOB MARLEY

Povodom godišnjice smrti u klubu Boogaloo 12. svibnja održati će se TRIBUTE TO BOB MARLEY. Navršava se 26 godina od njegove smrti (11.05.1981.). Na tom eventu će već tradicionalno nastupiti zagrebački roots reggae band BRAIN HOLIDAYS koji su se proslavili svirajući njegove hitove.

Za dobro raspoloženje na večeri posvećenoj sjećanju na Marleya biti će zaduženi i D.J-i na dva floora - dj Boško (Kset) i Brain Holidays Sound System (dj Marcus G. & dj Mandragora).

Prince Alla is a true legend of reggae music with a career spanning 30 years.

A serious, humble and genuine rastaman, in recent years he has also worked with Jah Shaka, whilst his classic older material has been brought to the attention of a new audience courtesy of 2 albums on the Blood & Fire reissue label, "Only Love Can Conquer" and "Heaven Is My Roof". In the UK Prince Alla has had an album released with The Disciples called "One Bright Day", whilst his first album with Jah Warrior entitled "Glory" was released in Spring 2000, then his "More Love" album released in 2002.

And here's the staggering follow up !! "More dub" 2003. Fourteen amazing dub versions.
Rootsy yet modern sounding with at times some little stepper incursion.
Most of the songs have a great K. Tubby's vibe with some more deep, worked parts... aka "meditation time" all those backed by P. Alla sweet yet powerful vocals.

Lee Scratch Perry - Jamaican E.T

Lee "Scratch" Perry (born Rainford Hugh Perry, on March 20, 1936, in Kendal, Jamaica) is a reggae and dub artist, who has been highly influential in the development and acceptance of reggae and dub music in Jamaica and overseas. He is also known as "Pipecock Johnson" or "Upsetter".

Perry's musical career began in the late 1950s as a record seller for Clement Coxsone Dodd's ska oriented sound system. As his sometimes turbulent relationship with Dodd developed, he found himself performing a variety of important tasks at Dodd's Studio One hit factory, going on to record nearly 30 songs for the label. Disagreements between the pair due to personality and financial conflicts, a recurring theme throughout Perry's career, led him to leave the studio and seek new musical outlets. He soon found a new home at Joe Gibbs's Wirl records.

Working with Joe Gibbs, Perry continued his recording career, but once again, financial problems caused conflict. Perry broke ranks with Gibbs and formed his own label, Upsetter, in 1968. His first single "People Funny Boy", which was an insult directed at Gibbs, sold very well. It is notable for its innovative use of a sample (a crying baby) as well as a fast, chugging beat that would soon become identifiable as "reggae" (the new sound did not really have a name at this time). From 1968 until 1972 he worked with his studio band The Upsetters. During the 1970s, Perry released numerous recordings on a variety of record labels that he controlled, and many of his songs were popular in both Jamaica and the UK. He soon became known for his innovative production techniques as well as his eccentric character.

In the early 1970s, Perry was one of the producers whose mixing board experiments resulted in the creation of dub. In 1973, Perry built a studio in his back yard, The Black Ark, to have more control over his productions and continued to produce notable musicians such as Bob Marley & the Wailers, Junior Byles, The Heptones, and Max Romeo. With his own studio at his disposal, Perry's productions became more lavish, as the energetic producer was able to spend as much time as he wanted on the music he produced. It is important to note that virtually everything Perry recorded in The Black Ark was done using rather basic recording equipment; through sonic sleight-of-hand, Perry made it sound completely unique. Perry remained behind the mixing desk for many years, producing songs and albums that stand out as a high point in reggae history.

By 1978, stress and unwanted outside influences began to take their toll: both Perry and The Black Ark quickly fell into a state of disrepair. Eventually, the studio burned to the ground. Perry has constantly insisted that he burned the Black Ark himself in a fit of rage, but it was most likely an accident due to faulty wiring. After the demise of the Black Ark in the early 1980s, Perry spent time in England and the United States, performing live and making erratic records with a variety of collaborators. It was not until the late 1980s, when he began working with British producers Adrian Sherwood and Neil Fraser (who is better known as Mad Professor), that Perry's career began to get back on solid ground again. Perry also has attributed the recent resurgence of his creative muse to his deciding to quit drinking alcohol[citation needed] and smoking cannabis[citationneeded]. Perry stated in an interview that he wanted to see if "it was the smoke making the music or Lee Perry making the music. I found out it was me and that I don't need to smoke."[1]

Perry now lives in Switzerland with his wife Mireille and two children. Although he celebrated his 70th birthday in 2006, he continues recording and performing to enthusiastic audiences in Europe and North America. His modern music is a far cry from his reggae days in Jamaica; many now see Perry as more of a performance artist in several respects. In 2003, Perry won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album with the album Jamaican E.T.. In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Perry #100 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[2]More recently, he teamed up with a group of Swiss musicians and performed under the name Lee Perry and the White Belly Rats, and made a brief visit to the United States using the New York City based group Dub Is A Weapon as his backing band. Currently there are two feature length movies made about his life and work: Volker Schaner´s "Vision Of Paradise" and "The Upsetter" by filmmakers Ethan Higbee and Adam Bhala Lough.
